Career Coaching FAQs
About Career Coaching
A career coach helps you identify the work that best fits you and how to get there. At the Career Prism Network℠, we start by measuring four things: your natural abilities, personality, values, and interests, which we call your G.E.M.S. With that clear picture, you can see which careers match who you are, explain your strengths confidently to employers, and follow a step-by-step plan to your next role. For most people, yes. You can work out your next career move on your own, but career coaching gets you there faster, with far less guesswork. Instead of months of trial and error, you get a clear picture of what fits you, a step-by-step plan, and someone to keep you on track. Compared with the cost of a wrong career move, or tuition for the wrong major, coaching is a small investment in a career that can last 40 years or more. See our packages and pricing →
Career coaching with the Career Prism Network℠ costs $695 to $1,295, paid as a one-time flat fee. The Discover-Only package ($695) includes your G.E.M.S. Profile™ report and a 2-hour one-on-one debrief. The Complete Career Design Package ($1,295) covers all three phases (Discover, Explore, and Design) and saves you $200 compared with buying each phase separately. We also offer custom packages, and your first introductory session is free.
A career counselor often holds a counseling license and may help with personal or emotional challenges that affect your work. A career coach focuses on your goals and the plan to reach them. Many coaches jump straight to the job search (resumes, LinkedIn, interview prep) without asking whether the goal is right, and a search aimed at the wrong target just gets you to the wrong place faster. The Career Prism Method℠ starts earlier: we measure your G.E.M.S. Profile™, explore careers that fit, and build your Career Design Blueprint™, so you're ready to launch your search with confidence. Our practitioners are career coaches, not mental health counselors. If you're facing significant mental health challenges, we'll encourage you to work with a licensed professional alongside us. You may need a career coach if you feel stuck, undervalued, or drained at work, or you're unsure what to do next. Common signs include:
You dread Mondays but can't say what would be better.
You're thinking about changing careers but don't know where to start.
You keep changing jobs but still don't feel satisfied.
You (or your student) are choosing a college major and aren't sure what fits.
The Career Prism Method℠ helps you find the direction that fits you and design a plan to get there. If you already know your target role and mainly need help with resumes or interviews, a job-search coach is a better fit.
Yes. Every Career Prism coach holds at least one professional certification in career development, counseling, or coaching, and keeps it current. Each also has an advanced degree in career development or a related field and is trained in the Career Prism Method℠. Just as important, our coaches have made career changes themselves, so they understand what you're going through. Meet our coaches →
For Adults Changing Careers
A career change happens in two stages: choosing the right direction, then making the move. With the Career Prism Method℠, the first stage takes a few weeks to six months. You can finish the Discover-Only package in two to three weeks. The full program (Discover, Explore, and Design) can take up to six months, and you set the pace around your schedule. The move itself depends on your target field, whether you need new training, and the job market, but you'll start with a clear plan. See our structured process →
Yes. Not knowing what you want to do is exactly where many of our clients start. Our coaching builds clarity in three steps. First, your G.E.M.S. Profile™ maps your natural abilities, personality, values, and interests. Next, your Career Spectrum™ shows which careers fit that profile. Finally, your Career Design Blueprint™ lays out how to get there. You'll also learn the process itself, so you can use it again whenever your career or life changes. Learn more about our approach →
For Students and Parents
The best time is sophomore year, and no later than junior year, before college applications and choosing a major. Starting early matters because most students plan based on interests alone, and those interests often change. The Career Prism Method℠ also measures a student's natural abilities, personality, and values, which tend to stay steadier. That gives students a full spectrum of careers that fit them, including strong options they'd never considered, so they can choose a college and major with confidence.
School counselors and Career Prism Method℠ coaches have different roles, but they work well together. A high school counselor typically supports 200 or more students while managing class schedules, college applications, and student well-being, leaving little time for in-depth career planning. Many schools offer an interest survey, but interests alone often change. We provide one-on-one coaching and assess your student's abilities, personality, and values, so they leave with a clear, personal college-and-career plan.
Changing direction in college is normal, and your student will be prepared. Because their choice is based on measured traits rather than interests alone, a change is usually a small adjustment, not a fresh start. For example, a student studying accounting might discover that forensic accounting or finance fits them better. Their G.E.M.S. Profile™ is still their foundation, so they can return to it, weigh their new options, and adjust their plan with confidence.
